Project Introduction
Airport Express Air & Rail Company Private Limited (AEARCPL) has taken the initiative to introduce a noval concept, most modern and innovative, the first of its kind in the history of Rail Services in SriLanka an EXPRESS SPEED TRAIN to travel nonstop from Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake to Fort in the Colombo Central Metropolis. This is, in order to extend AEARCPL's cooperation to the wishes of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hon. Mahinda Rajapakse.

LOCATION
Fort Railway Station Metropolis was selected for this project because it is an ideally suited and a meaningful location and right in context for the project, this locality:
- The Proposed Terminal will be modern high rise building of 2 storied which with house Star Hotels, Shopping Malls, Recreation Facilities, Parking, and of all, the main check in/out point for Immigration and Customs formalities.
- A convenient location for tourists to embark and disembark and not congested and moreover an environmentally clean area
- A first hand impression for the tourists to impress very much and much more.
THE ROUTE
The route will have surprises to the travelers and tourists such as:
- To glimpse the golden sandy beaches all the way to the Metropolis
- The serene environment and the scenic beauty.
- Crossing the bridge at the Negombo Lagoon.
- Crossing the bridge at Kelaniya River
- A few more gigantic bridges along the way And the most enthralling glimpse of the Colombo Harbour from the 3.5 km Suspension Bridge which will be the longest in Asia similar to the one in California USA the famous Golden Gate. A master piece by itself.
- At the Katunayake end the long walkway 450 meters stretch tunnel right from the disembarking and to the embarking point of the Aircraft. This can be provisioned with a transport service by Mini Buses, other mode of transport or simply walking.
The Aim
The aim of the project is to ease the traffic congestion on the Airport road route to and from, which is a cumbersome journey to the average traveler who visits as a tourist; as it will take 3 to 4 hours to reach the Colombo Metropolis which is totally agonizing and tiresome. It is well felt the attitude of the traveler especially for corporate visited who visit Sri Lanka on business or for short stay. The journey will take 25 minutes one way, thus relieving the tourists of their tiredness and being weary after a long air travel from their country.
The Speed train will carry 450 passengers to and fro as per static Airline schedules, approximately 09 journeys per day, and will be available to the foreign travelers as well as for locals too.
